EDUC 8848 Group Project

 Celluar Phone Technology

Extension/Enhancement

The landline telephone keeps a person stationary. The cell phone allows the individual to bring their telephone with them and it becomes personalized to that person. This allows the person to have individualized experience with the phone

Closure/Obsolescence

The cellular phone replaces two type of technology that are still close.  Many people now use the cellular phone in the same manner as the walkie talkie.  A person can dial a number quickly and receive help. In addition they both have a device to enhance the sound so more than one person can hear the information.

Retrieval

The cellular phone uses technology from both a walkie talkie and a landline telephone.

Reversal

The tablet may eventually replace the cellular phone in that uses many of the same characteristic.

  1. Hi Michelle,
You have some great ideas. You know smart phones can do just as much as tablets. Books can be downloaded, you can surf the net, play games, etc... My one problem with the iPad is that its not compatible with adobe air which is necessary for some programs. Overall, your tetrad brought back some great memories.

    1. I know I have the same issue, I would like the adobe to be used in the iPad as well. I think that is something that will be in future iPads.

  2. Michelle,

If tablets replaced cell phones, technology convenience might head in the reverse direction. It appears that cell phones became a lot smaller, more portable, and less costly to use, now even smartphones are becoming larger (the Samsung Note, for example, has a 5" screen - larger than some of the earlier Samsung smartphones and all of its competitors). So your prediction might be head on - as I've been wondering how I could just use my iPad and a bluetooth to talk, because it does everything else I need!

You compare a cell phone and say that it replaces, enhances, and retrieves the walkie talkie. Don't you have to remain within a specific distance to use a walkie talkie? I don't think they work from a far distance, depending on the frequency and brand.

    Good tetrad!

    1. Toni,
I don't know if it would take us in a reveerse direction because I use my talbet for writing as well. The same apps can go on a smartphone but ithe screen makes it difficult to keep track of what I am doing.

The cell phone does replace the walkie talkkie at our school. We all have to be on the same frequency and within a certain distance, the cell does not have the same requirements.

      Thanks for the comments.

  3. Toni: I like your take on the cell phone. I agree at one time it was a status symbol. I think that the type of cell you have defines your status. The amount of technology within the cell phone.

Brigit: there are several people I know who have told me that their phone is their memory. I tend to agree, but I have also noticed that my tablet is my memory, now. It used to be my memory.

Melissa: I agree that we are not far off where our watches will have not only our communication devices but the whole kit and kaboodle with regards to technology.

    ---------------------

The main item I think we left out with regards to the cell phone concern how the cell phone will affect our social connection with one another. For example, I have never met any of you, yet we are working together on a project. I am using my iPad, but I could just as easily write this email on my smart phone or have read your blogs on the smart phone. Maybe we can discuss that connection, the personal connection. What will change in that connection? Just an idea!

  4. Would you really carry a tablet instead of a cell phone? I for one do not like the size and bulk of them for that application. I would much prefer a smaller cell phone that functions as a table, such as the phablets. I believe that is the term.
